Sindh govt crossed all limits by torturing growers: SUP chief
SUKKUR: Sindh United Party (SUP) chief Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah supported the sugarcane growers and their demands here on Saturday. He said that the police baton-charged the growers, when they were protesting outside the Bilawal House. He said the government had crossed all the limits by torturing the growers.
“On one side, there is Zardari and his corrupt group and on the other hand, the government—by closing sugar mills—is economically murdering the growers,” the SUP chief said.
He said that every citizen had the right to protest peacefully, but the Sindh government was misusing its power by baton-charging peaceful growers protesting for their rights.
The sugarcane growers here on Saturday blocked the National Highway to the press their demands. Protesters said that exploitation of the sugarcane growers was traditionally continued by the Sindh government. They said that growers were passing through the worst financial issues. The protesters added that the mill owners, backed by the Sindh government, wanted to victimise the growers by depriving them of their basic rights.
