KARACHI: Naya Nazimabad Super Veterans won the 9th Super Veterans Match against Omar Veterans Super Veterans by nine wickets at the Lawai Stadium the other day.
Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association has been organising this Super Veterans Cricket festival match comprising 60 plus players for the last nine years.
Omar Associates skipper Nadeem Omar won the toss and elected to bat. Omar Associates put up an impressive total of 182 runs for the loss of only two wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Openers Fawad Ijaz Khan and Philip Dias scored fifties and were retired. Fawad scored 50 runs off 35 balls with seven fours and Philip scored 51 runs off only 25 balls with two sixes and six fours.
Skipper Nadeem Omar scored 20 runs (retired), Olympian Islahuddin scored 18 and former Test player Ejaz Faquih scored 16.
Naya Nazimabad reached the target in 18.5 overs for the loss of only one wicket.
Naya Nazimabad made an excellent start by scoring 150 runs for the opening wicket partnership. Former first class player Nadeem Yousuf scored 82 not out off only 52 balls with two sixes and eight fours. Skipper Arif Habib scored 65 runs off 52 balls with six fours. Anis Younus was unbeaten on 14 runs.
Chief guest Brig (Rtd) Salahuddin gave the winners’ cup to Arif Habib and the runners-up cup to Nadeem Omar.
Arif Habib was declared Man of the Match, Nadeem Yousuf the Best Batsman, Badar Ansari the Best Bowler and Mohammad Akram the Best Fielder.
