Using public transport in Pakistan has become an ordeal for a large number of commuters. For the residents of Karachi – one of the country’s busiest and populous cities – this crisis to has been proliferated due to the sheer extent of congestion on the roads. Buses, rickshaws, taxis and cabs ply on the crowded cities of the metropolis and add to the woes of citizens. While public transportation is a blessing, it has resulted in copious challenges as well. Rash driving by bus drivers has led to accidents. These incidents have surfaced with a disturbing regularity and need urgent attention.
The deplorable conditions of buses are another cause for concern. Overspeeding and the practice of taking on more passengers than a vehicle can handle has put many lives in danger. The government needs to improve the standards of our public transportation systems. Policymakers must introduce rigid laws in this regard that prescribe severe punishments against those who do not abide by traffic rules and regulations. Moreover, it is the duty of every person to take care of others and follow the rules. If we want to build a peaceful society, we must learn to take these responsibilities seriously.
