ADVISER on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique has directed the protective and precautionary measures in the province in view of a large number of swine flu cases and alleged deaths due to this virus in India.
He issued this directive while presiding over a meeting regarding the protective measures in Punjab in view of the swine flu cases in India at Civil Secretariat, according to a handout issued on Tuesday. Additional Secretary Health Technical Dr. Salman Shahid, Dean Institute of Public Health Prof. Moaz Ahmed, Additional Secretary Livestock Dr. Iqbal Shahid, Director Health (CDC) Dr. Ahmed Afifi, Deputy Secretary Medical Education Dr. Nasir Shakir, Additional Director Health Dr. Abdul Razzaq and representative of WHO Dr. Yahya attended the meeting.
Dr. Ahmed Afifi told the media that due to swine flu cases reported in India, steps were being taken according to the SOPs and guidelines of the CDC Atlanta and WHO in the province. He further said the surveillance staff of all the districts had been provided necessary training and awareness in Lahore and Tami Flue tablets being used in H1 N1 flue had been provided in abundance to all the districts.
Kh. Salman Rafique directed that the surveillance with regard to H1 N1 and swine flu of the passengers, coming from India, should be carried out for which arrangements should be made at Wagha Border, Gurdawaras, Lahore Railway Station and airports. The meeting decided to immediately constitute a working group comprising officers and experts of Health Department, Livestock, University of Animal Sciences, WHO, FIA, Rangers, Pakistan Railways and Institute of Public Health which would carry out surveillance of all steps being taken for the eradication of the swine flu.
Study tour: A delegation of 200 students of Civil Engineering Department at University of Engineering & Technology (UET), Lahore, visited New Khanki Barrage construction project at the River Chenab in Tehsil Wazirabadon recently.
According to a handout it was a study tour with the purpose of giving a better understanding of barrage components to the students. Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman led faculty members Eng Usman Ali, Eng Affifa Akram, Eng Khawaja Ali, Eng Vaiza Shiraz and the students.
Project Management Office (PMO) Punjab Barrages, Project Director (PD), Amjad Saeed received the students at New Khanki Barrage. PMO officials, consultants and contractor’s representatives were also present.
ETPB zone: The federal government has approved the request of Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Chairman Siddiq-ul-Farooq to make Nankana Sahib a new Administrator Zone. According to a handout issued here Tuesday, the federal government approved the request of the ETPB chairman to make Nankana Sahib a new administrator zone. Siddiq-ul-Farooq soon after assuming the charge of ETPB as its chairman has announced to form Nankana Sahib a new zone for better working of the board affairs. District Nankana and Sheikhupura will serve as district offices of the new zone which was previously run by the Lahore Zone.
