Announcing plans to hold a rally in Liaquatabad on December 24, Pak Sarzameen Party Chairman Mustafa Kamal on Thursday urged the people of Karachi to take to the streets for their rights.
Addressing a press conference, Kamal said the PSP does not accept the provisional results of the national census with respect to Karachi’s figures. He said the financially important metropolis was facing a myriad of issues, ranging from civic matters to security, and slammed the provincial and local governments for failing to address Karachi’s woes.
Kamal said the provincial government needed to be reminded of its responsibilities towards the people, including provision of basic necessities and protection of their rights.
Skewed figures
The former city mayor also laid into the Sindh government over Karachi’s water supply issues. “Karachi’s water demand is 1,240 million gallons per day. The figure that the chief minister cited [in a meeting on Tuesday] was 600 million gallons less,” said Kamal.
He said the Sindh government needed to correct, among many other things, their statistics. Kamal added that the Pakistan Peoples Party-led provincial government needed to pay heed to the PSP’s concerns, as he warned against any move that would usurp the rights of Karachi’s residents.
