Perween Rahman murder accused remanded to prison

The administrative judge of the anti-terrorism courts on Tuesday sent Ayaz Shamzai alias Swati, an accused in the murder case of Perween Rahman, to the central prison on judicial remand.

The investigation officer (IO) had earlier told the court that Swati was arrested from Manghopir on October 10 in compliance with the apex court’s directives. The accused is said to have connections with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. According to the IO, Swati during interrogation had admitted his involvement in Perween’s murder. Ahmed alias Pappu Kashmiri, Imran Swati and Raheem Swati are also being tried in this murder case.

Saleem Shahzad case

The Additional District and Sessions Judge (East) recorded the statements of two prosecution witnesses in a ransacking case against former Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Saleem Shehzad and adjourned the hearing till December 23.

Talking to journalists after his court appearance, Shehzad said political ‘pygmies’ were considering him a threat to their political careers as he had always had worked honestly and bravely.

He said he would soon visit Orangi Town and announce the formation of his political party. “Including former Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, everyone is free to come to Karachi and take part in politics.”
