KOHAT: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Saturday said the PML-N government did not make hollow claims, but was doing practical work and will contest the next general election on the basis of performance.

He was speaking at a public meeting after inaugurating the women campus of the Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST) in Azeem Bagh in Babari Banda here.

He said the PML-N believed in the politics of serving the people and not abusing opponents for political point-scoring.

He maintained that dictators and other political parties ruled the country, but they did not carry out any mega development project or provide relief to the people. “The PML-N always undertook development work unlike its political opponents who rely on hollow claims and use abusive language against others,” he claimed.

“Only the PML-N government launched and executed mega development projects whenever it came into power,” he added.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif honoured the commitments made with the people. “The development work we carried out in just four years could not be done in the past 20 years,” he insisted.

He said the federal government continued to carry out uplift work despite numerous challenges and unfavourable circumstances. The federal government fought terrorism and violence in the country and restored peace with the support of the masses, he argued.

The prime minister said the government would complete its term and the election would be held on time. He said some people were trying to politicise the issue of the proposed merger of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

“The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government is going to abolish the outdated system and merge the tribal areas with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he declared.

Earlier, the prime minister inaugurated the women campus of the university.

Initially, the classes would be started at the Government Girls Degree College, Gambat. Later the classes would be shifted to the new building to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs1 billion.

At first, 150 female students would be enrolled to study English and Zoology, while additional disciplines would be lunched gradually after the construction of new building.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi also launched construction work on Rs26 billion Kohat-Rawalpindi Road.

He also performed the ground breaking of Kohat-Dera Ismail Khan road. The road would cost Rs46 billion.

Adviser to the Prime Minister and PML-N Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Amir Muqam, Governor Iqbal Zafar Jahgra, Deputy Speaker National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi, PML-N leader Abbas Afridi and others were present on the occasion.

APP adds: The Prime Minister advised his political adversaries to serve the people if they wanted to enlist their support in the next general election.

He said terrorism was confronted and tackled by the PML-N government and now the people did not feel insecure.

“Every week, completed mega projects are being inaugurated and several others are lined up. I fear that a few projects may not be inaugurated due to our hectic schedule,” he remarked.

Recalling the tragic incident of the Army Public School & College, Peshawar that happened three years ago, he said after the tragedy the political parties and Pakistan Army confronted the threat collectively with the support of the nation and defeated the terrorists.

He said the law and order situation in the country had improved manifold compared to the situation in 2013.

“Now everyone feels secure. Our hard work and sacrifices have paid off and now we have peace in the country,” he added.
