Lawyer, brother shot dead

LAHORE: Two people, including a lawyer, were killed while three others received injuries in crossfire between two groups in Sherakot police limits on Monday night.

The victims were identified as Mian Ibrar, an advocate, and his brother Haji Afzal. Police said Amjad Bhatti Group and Makhan Hotel Group clashed with each other over some issues. Iqbal Town SP Rana Umar Farooq said police were trying to find out the motive behind the fight between the two groups. The injured from Makhan Group were shifted to hospital.

Meanwhile, family and relatives of victim trader Mian Mahmood, who was killed in Faisal Town in April this year, demanded the arrest of killers in a press conference at Lahore Press Club. The victim was killed on April 25, 2017 over a monetary dispute. A case No 394/17 was registered but the killers were still at large. The victim’s son and family members said if police failed to arrest the killers, they will stage a sit-in in front of IG office.

FIVE INJURED: Five people sustained injuries when a speeding bus hit a motorcycle-rickshaw in the Sundar police limits. The victims were shifted to hospital by Rescue 1122. The bus driver fled the scene.

special counters: Punjab Police Inspector General Captain (r) Arif Nawaz Khan said Special Protection Unit (SPU) should cooperate with FIA to establish special counters on airports for the security of foreign experts and investors especially Chinese citizens.

Data of every foreigner should be registered and measures of their security should be taken from airports. He said the first special counter would be established at Lahore Airport. Later on, the special counters would be extended to all airports of the province.

Arif Nawaz Khan expressed this while addressing a meeting to review the progress of SPU at CPO Lahore. CCPO Lahore Captain (r) Muhammad Amin Wains, Additional IG Welfare and Finance Muhammad Tahir, DIG Operations Punjab Amir Zulfiqar Khan, Special Protection Unit DIG Faisal Ali Rana, Elite Force DIG Afzal Mehmud Butt, DIG Operations Lahore Dr Haider Ashraf, SSP Administration Lahore Rana Ayyaz Saleem, and SSP Special Branch Lahore Region Capt (r) Romail Akram attended the meeting. He directed the Additional IG Welfare to ensure availability of all the necessary equipment including bulletproof jackets and helmets to SPU.

The IG Punjab said it was the prime responsibility of Punjab Police and SPU to ensure the security of all foreigners came here for developmental projects including mega project CPEC. He said the personnel of SPU need to work with true spirit. At this meeting, the SPU DIG was assigned to pay a field visit to A category working sites and inspect security measurements once in a month. Dolphin Force’s progress in curbing street crimes was discussed in the meeting.
