OCA allocates ‘Fun Run’ Programme to POA

LAHORE: The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has allocated “Fun Run” Programme to Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) as part of its build up to 2018 Jakarta – Palembang Asian Games.
The Fun Run will be conducted at Wapda Sports Complex which is also being conducted by 28 countries of the world and Pakistan will kick start this activity. The purpose of the race is to develop awareness among the people about sports. The Fun Run programme constitutes an important part of the 2018 Jakarta – Palembang Asian Games - Indonesia to be held there from August 18 to September 02, 2018. It’s aimed at creating awareness among the masses and give wide publicity to the continental event. A three-member special team of OCA is visiting Lahore to be part of this programme, which will be held on December 07 at Lahore. President POA giving details of the activity in a press conference stated that students of schools, medal winning athletes of the country and officials of the sports organisations will also be part of the fun race. POA secretary Khalid Mahmood, Shaukat Javed, OCA Media manager Jain Rao Jan, Alina Bestroa and OCA representative Zahid Hafeez from Kuwait were also present on the occasion.
He further said that 28 of the 42 countries have been allotted this race and Pakistan will launch this race. Speaking on the occasion, the OCA official stated that the fun run is the part of promotion of the games and credit of this race goes to OCA president Sheikh Fahd Al Saba.
Meanwhile, Arif Hasan stated that not a single training camp of the athletes has started to prepare the players for the next year’s Commonwealth Games. He said that Pakistan will be taking part in 30 of the 42 events of the Asian Games. He further stated that the government will have to formulate a proper plan with the collaboration of sports federations. He alleged that not a single meeting of sports board has been called when India alone has allocated 1730 crore rupees for their athletes preparation for Tokyo Olympics.
