PM for expediting work on Metro Bus project

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has directed for expediting and ensuring necessary coordination with all stakeholders including Punjab Mass Transit for early operationalisation of the Metro Bus Service project.

The prime minister was informed Monday in a high echelon meeting that work on all bridges, underpasses and culverts on 25.6km road project is near completion and would be finalised during this month. The Metro Bus Services will be connecting the capital with the new Islamabad International Airport (NIIA). Prime Minister Abbasi chaired a meeting to review progress on construction of the road infrastructure and allied works for Metro Bus Services connecting the capital with the New Islamabad International Airport (NIIA). The outgoing chairman National Highways Authority (NHA) Chaudhry Shahid Ashraf Tarrar briefed the prime minister on overall progress of 25.6km long road project which is being completed at the cost of around Rs12 billion. It was told that cargo link from Thallian to Motorway has already been completed. The meeting was informed that the construction of the Airport Link Road and the Metro Bus Service project would not only facilitate the citizens of the twin cities by providing easy access to the new airport but would also address transport related issues of the adjacent areas including the new sectors of the capital and adjoining parts of Rawalpindi city.


The chairman NHA also briefed the prime minister about dualisation of 33km Rawalpindi-Kahuta Road project. He informed the meeting that PC1 of the project has already been prepared and was in approval stages. The same is being expedited for early ground-breaking of the project. The chairman briefed the prime minister on progress of other NHA projects, which he said, will be completed as per schedule.
