Never free

November 25, 2017
November 25 is celebrated as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women across the world. Most of the horrible crimes against women are made in less developed countries. Pakistan is the world’s third most dangerous county for women. Women in Pakistan are regularly subjected to violence. Honour killing, abduction and sexual assault are the most gruesome acts done against them. Unluckily, our government, NGOs and civil societies have failed to protect women in Pakistan. If this issue remains untouched, Pakistan will not stand among the comity of nations.
Achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls will require more vigorous efforts, including legal frameworks to counter deeply rooted gender-based discrimination that often results from patriarchal attitude and conservative mindset in our society. There is a lot needed to do in this regard, the government, NGOs, civil societies and educated people should play their role to eliminate gender discrimination and atrocities which are made against women in Pakistan.
