LAHORE: Pakistan opener Mohammad Hafeez has asked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to provide a spin coach rather than taking services of the review committee in the bid to make a comeback in the bowling department.
The all-rounder was suspended for illegal action by the International Cricket Council (ICC) under 15-degree limit after which the PCB had formed a four-member review committee to rectify the bend from Hafeez’s action.
Head coach Mickey Arthur has support Hafeez’s call for the services for the services of a spin expert to train him. Hafeez believes that the spin consultant can better help him return with an improved bowling action.
A similar review board was established to help spin king Saeed Ajmal when ICC declared his bowling action illegal. The review board had only forwarded several recommendations and asked to take services of former spinner Saqlain Mushtaq.
At the moment, Hafeez and the two members of the review board including Saleem Jaffer and Sajjad Akbar are busy participating in National T20 Cup in Rawalpindi. The right-arm spinner will be trained from next week.
PCB had devised a plan for the cricketer s comeback in which he will be trained at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) where the review committee will work on his bowling action. After every 10 days of training, he will undergo a biomechanics test at the academy in order to bowl within the prescribed 15-degree limit by ICC.
The 37-year-old had been suspended for illegal action after he failed to clear the bowling assessment. Spin wizard Saeed Ajmal had offered his help to fix Hafeez’s bowling action and claimed that he can rectify the problem in just one month.
