ISLAMABAD: Former petroleum minister and PPP leader Dr Asim Hussain on Wednesday requested the Supreme Court to initiate contempt of court proceeding against the officials of the Ministry of Interior for violating its order of November 16, 2017, allowing him to go abroad for follow up medical treatment.
Dr Asim filed contempt petition in the apex court under Article 204 of the Constitution read with sections 3 and 4 of the Contempt of Court Ordinance 2003 for initiating contempt proceedings against Arshad Mirza, Secretary Interior, Additional Secretary Sher Afghan Khan and Qalandar Khan Section Officer, for violating its order passed on November 16. He informed the court that by its order passed on November 16, the apex court had permitted him to proceed to London for his follow up treatment. He said his medical examination was scheduled on November 21 in the hospital.
The former minister further submitted that the apex court had also directed to remove his name from the Exit Control List (ECL), but the concerned officials did not take any action in this regard.
Dr Asim prayed the apex court to convict the respondents for committing contempt of the apex court and they be punished suitably. He further prayed the court that appropriate order be passed with regard to removal of his name from the ECL and he may be permitted to go to UK for medical treatment.
