‘Punjab first province to launch drug-free campus drive’

LAHORE :Punjab Minister for Higher Education Syed Raza Ali Gillani said the Punjab government has launched drug-free campuses programme besides awareness drive at educational institutes across the province.
He was addressing a workshop organised to train focal persons recently posted in education institutions of the province. He said Punjab has become the first province to appoint focal persons for anti-drug programme in the campuses.
Fellowship: Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Chairperson Prof Dr Muhammad Nizam-ud-Din said the commission has introduced the first ever ‘Indigenous Post-Doctoral Fellowship Programme’ for PhD faculty members of provincially chartered public varsities of Punjab.
He said this during the 11th meeting of the PHEC on Tuesday. Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) Secretary Barrister Nabeel A. Awan, Dr Zafar Iqbal Qureshi, MPA Farhana Afzal, Lt Gen (r) Muhammad Akram Khan, Prof Dr Najma Najam, Dr Irfan Marium, Prof Dr Khaliq-ur-Rehman and others participated in the meeting.
Dr Nizam-ud-Din said PHEC always focused on enhancing the learning and career advancement opportunities of faculty members of public varsities. “Through this initiative our scholars will be trained locally to hone their research skills at universities and research institutes of Punjab. This programme has especially been introduced for faculty members, particularly female, who were unable to avail such openings abroad,” Dr Nizam said.
E-learning: A two-day international conference on e-learning and distance education “Envisioning the future: rethinking, reshaping, redesigning education” concluded at the University of Education on Tuesday.
Renowned educationists from Germany, Malaysia, Indonesia and Pakistan addressed in different sessions of the conference. Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Chairperson Dr Muhammad Nizam-ud-Din was the chief guest of the closing ceremony.
Dr Muhammad Nizam-ud-Din said e-learning has become an integral part of education across the globe. e-learning is the future of education. He stressed students to enhance their analytical skills.

Lecture: Cutting-edge research is being conducted by scientists from various parts of the world to detect microbial life on other planetary bodies such as Saturn’s moon, Enceladus and Jupiter’s moon, Europa.
According to a press release, this was stated by Dr Nozair Khawaja, a PhD scholar from the University of Heidelberg. Dr Nozair is currently a postdoc researcher on Planetary Science by Space Missions at the Institute of Earth Sciences at the University of Heidelberg. He was speaking during a debate, “The Search for Life in the Solar System” organised by Lahore Astronomical Society (LAS) in collaboration with Information Technology University (ITU).
