AHMEDABAD: A 16-year-old boy studying in class X at a school in Banaskantha district allegedly committed suicide after he was severely beaten up by four teachers for damaging a school property, police said on Tuesday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police S G Patel, who is investigating the case, said the four teachers - Sangaram Patel, G K Patel, B M Patel and Bhathiji Thakore - of Gayatri Vidyalaya in Banaskantha’s Tharad taluka allegedly confined the boy in the school premises on Monday before thrashing him.
“Prakash Chauhan, a class X student of Gayatri Vidyalaya, committed suicide yesterday by hanging himself at his home in Ambedkarnagar society on Mulupur road in Banaskantha,” police station officer (PSO) Reva Gujarati said.
“Prakash was beaten by the four teachers for damaging a camera, which is the school’s property, and he was under trauma after that,” Gujarati said, adding that the boy had narrated the incident to his father a few hours before he ended his life. Based on a complaint by the boy’s parents, police have registered a case against the four teachers.
