Islamabad :The Roots Metropolitan Model United Nations (RMMUN) 2k17 commenced with a ceremony integrating mesmerising Chinese, Turkish, Brazilian, Tajikistan, Russian and other global ethnic presentations and performances by the talented students of Roots International Schools (RIS), says a press release. The opening ceremony included performances by students depicting and highlighting diverse colors of different ethos. These representations incorporated cultural harmony and peace around the globe. The presentations were meticulously appreciated by all the honorable guests as well as the delegates. The ceremony officially commenced by the speech of RMMUN Secretary General Ali Melad. Later, the Advisor to Roots Metropolitan RMMUN 2K17 President, Hania Rehman also greeted the guests officially. Students from various campuses of RIS gave electrifying performances at the inauguration ceremony. On the occasion, the Ambassador of Pakistan to Bahrain, Javaid Malik, Major General Jayanath Lokuketagodage High Commissioner, and High Commission of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, the Minister Counselor Mihai-Stefan Dinu, Embassy of Romania, and Sadriddin Gadoev Assistant to Ambassador of Tajikistan and Shadmon Fayzalizoda, Administrator Embassy of Tajikistan also graced the occasion with their presence. All the ambassadors appreciated the students’ efforts and highlighted the expectations they have about the impending four days and motivated students to accomplish with the same enthusiasm and vitality. While addressing the audience, the Ambassador of Pakistan to Bahrain stated how RMMUN provides the chance to all participants to develop their communication, negotiation, and cooperation skills and also sharpen the sensitivity and analysis skills in understanding many of the world’s conflicts and problems. He added that the young generation gets immensely benefitted by conferences such as these, since they provide a platform to all the students to assess the critical strategic problems and the evaluation of the UN Security Council in addressing the current issues and problems afflicting the third world countries. The Ambassador also stressed on how the schools can play an important role in bringing Islamic values and culture to the surface and instilling them in our youth. As many as 1000 delegates from across Pakistan are participating in the RIS Metropolitan RMMUN’17 Conference and they will discuss multilateral issues including countering violent extremism, ensuring freedom of expression, adapting to climate change and promoting the human rights of migrant workers, says a press statement issued here on Thursday. RIS CEO Walid Mushtaq addressed the delegates and articulated his projections from the conference. He commended the unprecedented optimism and enthusiasm that the delegates brought to the conference. Rector MIUC, Walid Mushtaq also talked about the vital role of youth in a country’s development and explained how the world needs their active engagement. The CEO RIS pointed out that today’s Pakistan has changed as compared to that of previous generations and the youth of this country has all the potential to become great leaders and entrepreneurs. Titled Effective Responses to Global Crisis - Empowered Lives, Resilient Nations, the conference is being organised by the RIS Debate and MUN Society. Having been held annually since 2009, the conference is the largest in Pakistan, claimed Secretary General Ali Melad in his address to the audience. “It’s not a typical debating competition, it’s a whole social experience for the delegates,” he said. Model UN simulates the actual workings of the United Nations and related organisations. An excellent way to acquaint young people with the inner mechanisms of international political structures, MUN affords competitors an in-depth look at the subtleties of the United Nations. Participants, known as delegates, take the roles of UN diplomats from various countries and must faithfully represent their adopted country’s views on a given topic. Over the next three days, the conference will simulate four UN committees: United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Social Cultural and Humanitarian Committee (SOCHUM), Disarmament and International Security Council and The Disarmament and International Security said the press statement. “In addition to engaging delegates in extensive discussion of real-world issues, such as re-evaluating international law in light of contemporary humanitarian crisis and the female child rights: the rights of females in underdeveloped countries. The conference also includes networking events to celebrate the richness of culture and diversity of the entire world,” added the statement. The opening ceremony was followed by the colorful and rich cultured ‘Global Village’, where all the delegates signified the countries they had chosen for debates. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sherali S. Jononov was the Chief Guest at the Global Village. In this episode delegates colored the floor with the cultural and traditional aspects of their respective countries. The fashion fiesta added vibrancy to the evening and the ramp walk added an extra spice. The jury consisted of the diplomats from different embassies in Islamabad. The best exhibition will be awarded on the closing ceremony.
