A six-month-old boy succumbed to his injuries after his bed was engulfed in flames following a fire that broke out in the bedroom of a house in New Karachi Sector 11-G on Thursday.
New Karachi police station’s SHO Ayaz Brohi said Abdul Hadi, son of Khan Muhammad, was taken to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi’s Burn Centre for treatment where he died. Brohi said the toddler’s mother claimed the fire broke out owing to a short circuit. In her statement to the police, she said she was in the kitchen when she heard Hadi’s screams.
The SHO added that the mother said she ran to the room but could not help him as the fire had surrounded the bed. The fire was put off by neighbours and the boy taken to the hospital. His body was handed over to his parents for burial after completion of medico-legal formalities.
