Police claim decrease in crime in current year

Islamabad: The crime rate has significantly dropped in the federal capital in first 45 days of the current year as compared to corresponding period of 2014.
According to the police spokesman, a total of 11 murder cases, 21 attempt to murder cases and two kidnapping cases have been reported this year in various police stations of Islamabad. He said that 19 murder cases, 22 attempt to murder cases and three kidnapping cases were registered in the first 45 days of the last year (2014).
Comparing other crime cases in the corresponding period, he said that the Islamabad Police registered five dacoity cases in 2015 as compared to eleven cases registered in first 45 days of the last year.
He said that 55 robbery incidents have been reported so far while 84 such cases were reported in 2014. Islamabad police spokesman claimed that over 50 per cent reduction in vehicle theft incidents have been witnessed as 138 vehicles were lifted from the city in first 45 days of 2014 as compared to the 64 vehicles stolen in the corresponding period in 2015.
Similarly, only 34 motorbikes were stolen this year as compared to 43 of the corresponding period. Moreover, He said police performed actively against those possessing illegal weapons and registered 100 cases as compared to 94 cases registered during last year.
Police spokesman said that 42 burglary incidents and 30 incidents of forcibly snatching items have been reported this year as compared to the 61 and 69 such cases respectively during first 45 days in 2014.
Inspector General of Islamabad Police Tahir Alam Khan said the reduction in the crime rate was due to effective strategy of the capital police and vowed to ensure efforts against criminals in the future. He has directed police officials to work hard and resolve public problems on top priority.
The IGP also announced to award appreciation letter to SP (Saddar) Muhammad Ilyas, SP Industrial Area Liaqat Hayat Niazi and SP (Rural) Yasir Afridi for their contribution in combating crime through effective strategy.
