Hashmi demands govt retrieve his land from ex-minister

MULTAN: Senior politician Javed Hashmi has demanded the Punjab government retrieve his more than 60 acres agriculture land from the Qabza mafia led by disqualified Punjab Minister for Jails Waheed Arain.
Addressing a press conference at his residence here on Thursday, he warned the government of leading rallies if it remained mum over the issue. He said that the land situated in Makhdoom Rashid belonged to his ancestors. He said that it was illegally occupied by the Auqaf Department when he joined the Tehrik-e-Istaqlal Pakistan. Later, he won the case against the Auqaf Department. He said that the department again occupied his land when he left the PML-N and joined the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf. Hashmi said that Waheed Arain started cultivation in the name of his close aide Abdul Sattar in connivance with the Auqaf Department in 2012 on nominal lease charges. He demanded the government retrieve the land and establish a medical university there.
He said that those booked by Makhdoom Rashid police were not his supporters but the people from different walks of life, who were protesting against the illegal possession. He said that police also registered a case against his elder brother Nasir Shah.
Earlier, police, on the report of Abdul Sattar, registered a terrorism case against 60 villagers, including supporters of Javed Hashmi, for trying to retrieve the land from ex-minister Waheed Arain. Those booked include Nasir Shah and Amjad Shah.
