PESHAWAR: Various organisations on Saturday staged protest against the genocide of Rohingya Muslims and urged the Islamic world to help end atrocities being carried out against the innocent people in Myanmar.

Tanzeem-e-Islami Khyber Pakhtunkhwa held a protest rally outside the Peshawar Press Club. The protesters were addressed by the Tanzeem’s leaders who condemned Myanmar junta for killing innocent Muslims. The participants were carrying placards and banners featuring images of the Rohingya Mulims, who are facing indescribable atrocities at the hands of the Myanmar army. The protesters later marched to the Khyber Bazaar, raising slogans against the Myanmar government.

The Traders Alliance and Peshawar Cantonment also took out a rally against the killing of Muslims in Myanmar. President of the Alliance, Qaisar Javed led the rally, which culminated in a demonstration outside the Peshawar Press Club after marching through various bazaars and markets.

The protesters sought immediate end to the killing of the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar and demanded the Norwegian Nobel Committee to take back the Nobel Peace Prize from Myanmar’s leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, as she, they said, was also responsible for the genocide of the Muslims.

Our correspondent in DIR adds: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) head Sirajul Haq on Saturday accused the government of failing to raise voice for Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

He urged the government to close the embassy of Myanmar and expel its ambassador from the country.

He was addressing a public gathering in Warai in Upper Dir.

JI provincial head Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, parliamentary leader in National Assembly Sahibzada Tariqullah, Senior Minister Inayatullah Khan, District Nazim Sahibzada Fasihullah, tehsil nazims and local leaders of JI were present on the occasion.

Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, Sahibzada Tariqullah, Inayatullah, Fasihullah and others addressed the meeting.

Sirajul Haq said seeing pictures of the burnt limbs of the Rohingya Muslims had moved him to tears.  He said innocent Muslims were being killed, but the international media was silent on this issue.

Sirajul Haq said that he had asked former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to eradicate interest from Pakistan, but he couldn’t honour his promise.

The JI leader said that apart from Nawaz Sharif, 436 other people were also named in the Panama Papers leaks and they should be brought to justice.

He said his party would launch accountability march from Lahore from tomorrow.

He said the march would continue until the corrupt were brought to justice.

Sirajul Haq added corrupt politicians wanted to repeal Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.  “The JI will not allow them to do so,” he vowed.
