Cloth burnt in Samanabad market fire
LAHORE
Cloth worth millions of rupees were burnt in a fire in five shops in Samanabad on Saturday.
The fire broke out due to short circuit and by the time it was extinguished by firefighters, fabric worth millions of rupees was reduced to ashes. No casualty was reported.
Meanwhile, Defence police arrested a couple allegedly involved in stealing valuables from houses. Gold ornaments weighing 118 tolas and other valuables were found in their possession.
The arrested couple was identified as Shabir and his wife Nargis.
bodies found: An unidentified man was found dead in the limits of Mozang police on Saturday.
Police said that the victim was an addict and died of an overdose of drugs. The body was transferred to morgue for autopsy.
Meanwhile, another man, Muhammad Riaz, breathed his last in a local hospital near Ravi Road. The Ravi Road SHO said the man had died of natural causes. The body was shifted to morgue.
overcharged fare: The Motorway Police, Central Zone, have made transport owners return Rs 3,789,642 overcharged from passengers during Eid days.
This was stated by the Central Zone DIG during his surprise checking of overcharging in buses on the national highways near Thoker Niaz Baig, Lahore.
The Central Zone returned an overly charged amount of about Rs 3.78 million to 42,987 passengers and imposed fine on violations to 7,042 vehicles.
Similarly, Motorway Police imposed 4.5 million fine on 4,428 public service vehicles on overcharging and overloading. Similarly, 13,556 overloaded passengers were disembarked from public service vehicles while five PSVs were returned from the toll plaza on the national highways.
The Motorway Police have initiated stern action against buses, vans and other PSVs in Lahore, Manga Mandi, Pattoki, Sahiwal, Multan, Okara, Khanewal, Lodhran, Bahawalpur and Rahimyar Khan and other major cities on the complaints of overcharging and had taken all possible steps for return of extra fare to the passengers.
Man dies in accident: A 50-year-old man was killed by a tractor-trolley in the Raiwaind police area on Saturday.
The victim was identified as Muhammad Boota. Two children also sustained injuries in the incident. Rescuers transported the victims to hospital. The body has been removed to morgue.
