LAHORE: A local court adjourned the case of over Rs10 billion defamation suit filed by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif against PTI Chairman Imran Khan after he neither appeared before the court nor filed a reply.
Shahbaz had filed the suit through his counsel Mustafa Ramday against Imran for alleging that he was offered Rs10 billion by a close associate of the chief minister to drop the Panama Papers case against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
On Monday, Additional Sessions Judge Azfar Sultan Abrar Syed again issued notice to Imran and sought reply by September 9. According to the application, Imran willingly tried to befool the nation by levelling allegation against Shahbaz and defamed him for the sake of political interests.
The delay in deciding cases by courts have encouraged leaders in Pakistan to level allegations against one another without impunity. In Western countries cases of defamation are decided and implemented without delay. That is why leaders their remain very careful while speaking against others.
