The paramilitary force announced on Friday that they had picked up six suspected criminals, including activists of a political party, in two raids conducted in the city.

The spokesman for the Sindh Rangers said paramilitary soldiers conducted intelligence-based raids in Mehmoodabad, Defence and Darakhshan areas, and took into custody five men. During interrogation, the suspects -- identified as Mushtaq Ahmed alias Mullah, Farrukh Ahmed alias Pawa, Mohammad Majid alias Tanki, Mohammad Waqas and Mohammad Afzal, all associated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement MQM-London – admitted involvement in target killings, extortion, aerial firing, hoarding of weapons, forcible collection of hides and providing illegal water connections in different parts of the city.

Personnel of the paramilitary force, which has been spearheading a targeted operation to curb heinous crime in the metropolis since September 2013, conducted a raid in Zaman Town and detained Ali Raza for his alleged involved in a number of robberies.

They also seized weapons, ammunitions and looted items, and handed the suspects over to police for further legal action. A day earlier, Rangers’ troops carried out a raid in the Darakhshan area and caught Mohammad Nadir alias Mirchi and Mohammad Arshad Shaikh. The two were said to be associated with the MQM-London and involved in a number of target killings and other crimes.

They also picked up Bahadur Ali and Mohammad Husnain in the Darakhshan area for their alleged links with Lyari gang war and involvement in drug peddling and stealing side mirrors of vehicles.
