Focal persons appointed to check use of drugs in Capital schools
Islamabad: The Education department has appointed 62 focal persons who would present their recommendations to control use of drugs in schools, colleges and universities of the capital city.
According to the official record, these focal persons mostly comprise senior teachers would review the situation and discuss in detail the issue of use of drugs among the students before presenting their recommendations to the education department.
Drug abuse is rapidly growing amongst youth in colleges and universities, resulting in serious social and health implications. A report prepared by a non-government organisation (NGO) stated that 44 to 53 percent students of large private schools in the federal capital are addicted to various kinds of drugs.
Saeed Ahmad, a teacher at the Government Model College, said the educational institutes need to educate students on the adverse effects of drugs and the government should make an example of the criminals who are involved in supplying drugs to the students.
“The private schools that receive huge amount of money in the shape of fees must be made accountable if their students get indulged in use of drugs. The administration of the government schools should also introduce innovative measures to curb this menace in order to save future of the students,” he said.
