New federal ombudsman sworn in
Islamabad: President Mamnoon Hussain administered the oath of office to Syed Tahir Shahbaz as Wafaqi Mohtasib (federal ombudsman) at an oath-taking ceremony held at the Awian-e-Sadr, Islamabad, on Friday.
The ceremony was attended by senior civil officers, academicians and people from all walks of life.The entire ceremony, including the administering of oath, was conducted in Urdu, the national language.
Later, the ombudsman called on the president, who congratulated him on the appointment and wished him well in discharge of new responsibilities. The president said the institution of Wafaqi Mohtasib should continue with its efforts for providing expeditious relief to common man and for serving the cause of humanity.
Established in 1983, the institution of the Federal Ombudsman has been tasked with addressing the people’s complaints against maladministration on part of federal ministries and agencies.
