NAB performance report issued

LAHORE: NAB Lahore  Director General Shahzad Saleem Friday issued detailed report on the regional bureau’s performance since its inception in 1999. 

The DG said NAB Lahore exposed numerous mega corruption cases since commencement and managed to arrest 1161 culprits, including bureaucrats, businessmen, real estate agents, police officials, government and non-government personnel. Shahzad said out of the 1161, 85 criminals were arrested since he assumed charge as DG Lahore region in April 2017.

According to a press release, he stated that NAB Lahore received 48,437 complaints since 1999 of which 47,907 have been disposed of till now. 

Total 3,331 Complaints Verifications (CVs) were authorised of which 3,208 CVs were disposed of, whereas, 659 verifications were referred to other departments, he said, adding that 2,099 Inquiries had been authorised since inception of which 1,951 had been disposed of, whereas, 148 inquiries were under process with the bureau till date. 

The DG  said that Lahore region NAB filed 1,019 references on different corruption cases in accountability courts since formation of the bureau and, out of those, the courts decided 646 references. NAB Lahore’s overall conviction rate remained 76 percent, he said.  Talking about the recovered money, Shahzad said Rs 50.407 million of looted money had been recovered from accused persons from January 2017 to till date, summing up to total Rs 58.16 billion since NAB’s inception.

FIA raid: A team of FIA Lahore raided an outlet at Karim Block Market, Allama Iqbal Town, on Friday and detected over Rs 58, 000 pending/unpaid bills. According to FIA Deputy Director Khurram Yousaf, the raiding team detected around Rs 58,907 pending/unbilled units. Accordingly, he said, a case has been registered against the owner of the shop, Seema Aziz.
