Death by water
By our correspondents
July 20, 2017
This refers to the editorial ‘Dangerous water’ (Jul 18). The supply of contaminated water exposed the incompetence and insensitivity of the government. The editorial says ‘This is a failure of governance that cannot be allowed to go’. There can be no two opinions about it but the moot point is who will set the governance right?
It is not the duty of the courts to draw attention to routine matters of governance and give directions. If the political set up cannot prevent this happening, it has no right to govern. Had this issue surfaced in the US or Europe, the response would have been totally different, including filing of criminal charges.
