Five of a family buried amid moving scenes

LAHORE :Bodies of five members of a family, who lost their lives in an accident in Murree a day back, were brought to their Sabzazar residence on Thursday. The victims were identified as Sidra, Hamna, Hadia, Wasif and Noreen, residents of Sabzazar. Moving scenes were witnessed when bodies arrived home.

"Words cannot express the enormity of the tragedy which has befallen our family. We are all numbed by this tragedy which has visited us,” a family member said. "The grief of the family cannot be measured.

There was a numbness and stillness in the family home and my thoughts and prayers and the thoughts and prayers of the entire family parish and further afield are with those bereaved," he added. "We share the widespread sorrow following the tragedy that claimed the lives of 11 people in Murree, a local resident said, adding that this tragedy resonated with them all. At times like this it was difficult to comprehend how life could be so altered in moments.

Locals of the area said their prayers were with the family and friends of those killed in the accident. "This is a terrible tragedy that has affected the entire community and left all of us numb,” they added.

A neighbour said that who would have thought that a family recreational trip could have ended so tragically? It was beyond belief and they could not put into words how sorry the entire area for the family and those affected by this dreadful accident," he maintained. Later, the victims were laid to rest in a local graveyard in the presence of hundreds of people. 

Our correspondent adds: Around 818 road accidents were reported in the Provincial Monitoring Cell of the Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) in all 37 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours in which eight lives were lost and 735 serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant districts and tehsils.

However, some 264 victims, who sustained minor injuries, were discharged on the spot after giving them first aid by the emergency medical teams.  factory fire: Goods were reduced to ashes when a fire broke out in a shoe factory in Shafiqabad area on Thursday. 

The cause of the fire was said to be short circuit. Upon being informed, firefighters rushed the spot and extinguished the fire after hectic efforts. No casualty was reported in the incident.  No casualty: With comprehensive strategy by the police, no casualty caused by wheelie was reported on Chand Raat and during Eid holidays.

Chief Traffic Officer SSP Rai Ijaz Ahmad said all the officers and traffic wardens ensured smooth traffic flow during Chand Raat and Eid days. Wardens and Dolphin squad performed an alert duty due to which accidents’ rate remained low and six people sustained minor injuries in eight accidents during Eid days, the CTO said and added the city traffic police established specialised squads against wheelie and to maintain traffic flow.

Specialised squads arrested 221 violators and lodged 170 FIRs while taking action against wheelie doers. More than 1,500 motorcycles were seized for violating one-way, wrong parking and other traffic laws violation, the CTO said.
