RIYADH: Today (Sunday) is the day of Eidul Fitr as the crescent of 1st Shawwal has been sighted in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states.
According to media reports the Saudi supreme court called on all Muslims throughout the kingdom to sight the moon of Shawwal on Saturday evening (29 Ramazan) 1438 H (June 24).
In an announcement the Saudi court said that whoever sees the Shawwal moon by the naked eye or binoculars should report to the nearest court and register his testimony.
According to astronomical projections there was a chance of seeing the moon on the 29th of Ramazan on Saturday.
In Pakistan Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (CRHC) will meet in Peshawar today June 25 in connection with Shawwal moon sighting.
The meeting would be held at Aiwan-e-Auqaf, Eidgah Charsadda Road in Peshawar with Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Mufti Munibur Rehman in chair.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has already predicted that Eidul Fitr is likely to fall on June 26.
