Attack on lawyers condemned
LAHORE Supreme Court Bar Association former president Barrister Syed Ali Zafar on Friday condemned the act of violence against lawyers in the Lahore High Court.
He sought strict action against all those persons who abused and attacked the lawyers representing Mst Bilquis Zareena in the missing persons’ case a couple of days ago. Barrister Zafar called upon the LHCBA and the registrar High Court to jointly file an FIR against all culprits involved in the matter and bring them to justice.
Talking to reporters, he called upon Pakistan Bar Council to suspend the licences of all those involved in the incident. He said that practicing law was a wonderful profession in which the best of intellectuals engage in great legal arguments before the judges for protection of their clients and such instances tarnish the image of lawyers worldwide. He said the persons who attacked although wearing black uniforms were not appearing in the case as advocates and as such their actions are in their individual capacity, and that they are accordingly liable to be tried and punished under the law for the criminal offences they have committed in the face of the court. Mr Zafar urged the Lahore High Court Chief Justice to hold an urgent meeting with the representatives of Pakistan Bar Council, the entire cabinet of the LHCBA and other senior lawyers.
