ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Information Maryam Aurangzeb on Sunday said the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the PanamaLeaks case should have waited for one day to summon Hussain Nawaz, the son of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, since the matter is sub judice.

Talking to media persons, Marriyum Aurangzeb said the JIT summoned Hussain Nawaz only a day before hearing of his petition by the Supreme Court pertaining to reservations about some members of the team.

"We don't want to give the perception that expressing reservations is meant to avoid responding to queries," the minister said. She said Hussain Nawaz appeared before the JIT on a very short 24-hour notice. She said the Sharif family does not

want to do politics on any legal issue.  Marriyum said the PML-N holds constitutional institutions of the country in high esteem. She said Hussain Nawaz appeared before the JIT despite expressing reservations about two JIT members through an application to the apex court.

Marriyum said the appearance of the son of an elected prime minister before the JIT has substantiated the PML-N’s stance in this regard.

Meanwhile, the PTI leader Shafqat Mehmood said the Sharif family, by appearing before the JIT, has not been doing a favour to anyone. "It would be contempt of court, had Hussain Nawaz not appeared before the team," he said.  The PTI leader further criticised Hussain Nawaz for arriving at the Federal Judicial Academy along with party activists, saying that it was tantamount to pressurising the JIT.
