MINGORA: The police baton-charged the shopkeepers on the Haji Baba Road when they demanded money after the police purchased fruits and other items.

Shopkeepers Shahzad and Ihsanullah alleged that cops tortured the shopkeepers after they asked the police to pay for their purchased items. The traders also alleged that the cops threw away their fruits and vegetables on the road. The traders staged a protest against the police highhandedness. However, the police party headed by Station House Officer Nasir Bacha reached the spot.

The SHO directed the cops to open fire on the traders for disrespecting the police. The police also tortured journalists who were covering the protest. The official broke the camera of a photojournalist identified as Kamran.
