Role of media for highlighting importance of traffic rules lauded

Rawalpindi: National Highways & Motorway Police N-5 North Zone organised a conference to raise road safety awareness for commuters and general public, says a press release.

DIG National Highways & Motorway Police N-5 North Zone Abbas Ahsan while addressing the participants said that the role of media cannot be denied in building up the society that is fully literate with traffic rules and propagation of road safety education.

He also added that the possible increase in traffic volumes is expected on the highways and the motorways once CPEC become fully functional and three traffic zones would be established. “So to cope with this situation; concerned ministries have been requested to recruit additional/extra force of officers/officials to manage traffic flow.

He informed that road safety issues would be a challenge after the CPEC gets fully operational and to cater with the situation, Road Safety Plan-2017 has been chalked out for execution and for the successful implementation of the same plan and achieving results, four Mobile Education Units have been established.

DIG also shared the progress of Motorway police North Zone for the year 2016 & 17 as well as future plan with media personnel to get healthy output.

DIG Abbas Ahsan informed that E-Ticketing has been fully launched in Murree Expressway and in 2017 the same would be launched throughout the zone from Peshawar to Lahore.

He informed the participants of media conference that grand operation against encroachments has commenced and media personnel must identify the places where the operation against encroachment is weak to strengthen the enforcement. At the end, DIG said that for all purposes whether that is road safety education, road safety measures for CPEC and all other issues, media has to come forward and join National Highways & Motorway Police for this noble cause.
