KARACHI: Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) has completed its talent hunt in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

“We have identified a few boys and girls in the age categories of under-12, 13, 15, and 17. We will now assess them,” said PSF secretary Tahir Sultan while talking to ‘The News’.

He added that the talent hunt scheme was meant to identify talented players the provincial squash associations have.

“The players we have identified will be groomed for future either at PSF academy or at a provincial squash facility,” said Tahir.

The PSF secretary added that a team of PSF consisting of Senior Vice President, Secretary, Head Coach, and Physical Trainer indentifies talented players in the provinces.

“We can also do the assessment at our academy by calling the talented players of the associations here in Islamabad. This way we will have a pool of talented players who will be given chances to play at international level,” said Tahir.

“The talented players of provincial squash associations flop when they come to PSF academy,” he added.

He said they would conduct this talent hunt in other provinces as well and this could take some time. “We can do this in a while but we want to do it skillfully,” said Tahir.

The PSF secretary said that they would also conduct age scrutiny of these players. “We have meetings with the parents of players and with the officials of provincial squash associations in this regard,” said Tahir.

He added that they have made it clear to both parents and provincial officials that they would not compromise on the age of players and they should all play in their respective age categories.

“We don’t want to face humiliation at the international level by letting overage players represent Pakistan. We have to set things right. We have asked the associations to do age scrutiny of their players and we will do this as well at our end,” said Tahir.
