Modi’s India

For the first time, a sitting president has visited India twice. Perhaps, what is more interesting is the visit by Indian PM Narendra Modi to address the UN General Assembly in New York. This is the same Modi who was denied a visa by the US for his role in the massacre of hundreds of Muslims in the 2002 Gujarat riots. Back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, our economy was growing much faster than India’s. Consequently, Pakistan was visited by most American presidents.
Nawaz Sharif, who is in power for the third time, has little to add to the deplorable conditions the state is in. Leaving aside security concerns, Pakistan has little to offer in terms of profitable investment and a promising relationship with the sole superpower. However, in India’s case the situation is completely opposite. We need to improve our relations and boost both trade and cooperation with India to strengthen our own foundation.
