The head of the Edhi Foundation, Faisal Edhi, and Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar inaugurated on Wednesday a food laboratory revamped by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
Addressing the issue of adulteration, Akhtar said that those not complying with the standardised laws would be prosecuted, irrespective of their size of business. He added that dangerous additives lead to serious health concerns, and mentioned that strict action would be taken against those selling addictive items like gutkas.
Speaking about the present condition of the food lab, he said food sample testing was not being done because the equipment was out of order and the officials were busy taking bribes. Those inspectors have been transferred and further action is being taken.
The mayor also spoke about the construction of multistorey buildings that the provincial government should cancel all granted NOCs for these structures.
Referring to the situation of traffic in Ramazan, he assured that an SPO had been drafted and the traffic police would perform their duties diligently.
