A man accused of killing a seven-year-old boy after raping him was shot dead in an alleged police encounter in Muslim Town Police limits on Monday.
Accused barber Shoib, 17, of Green Town was on a judicial remand in the case. The police were taking him to a court when near Gulzar Underpass the accused started scuffling with the policemen and tried to snatch a rifle. The policemen retaliated. As a result, the accused received bullet injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but could not survive. The accused had hanged the boy after subjecting him to a sexual assault at the roof of a mosque. The police had arrested a number of people in the case. A DNA test of the accused proved his involvement in the crime. The police claimed that the accused had resisted and tried to snatch a rifle, but sources claimed that the police had directives from the high ups not to spare the criminals who killed children after assaulting them. Police removed the body to morgue and registered an FIR against the deceased on the complaint of SI Shamim Paul.
ACCIDENTS: At least 505 road traffic accidents were reported in Rescue 1122 Provincial Monitoring Cell in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours in which 14 lives were lost and 432 seriously injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant district. This was stated by Punjab IG while addressing the participants of a ceremony arranged in honour of police officers/officials for their extra ordinary performance during the year 2014. Punjab Headquarters DIG Farooq Mazhar, AIG. Discipline, Dr Inam Waheed, AIG, Admin, Zubair Dareshak and PSO to IGP Tariq Rustam were present.
