Promote positive thinking in society: governor
LAHORE
Punjab Governor Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana has said the government is performing its constitutional responsibility for providing social justice to people and there is a need to promote positive thinking in society for the country’s development.
He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of 4th phase of chief minister’s laptop scheme at Faisal Auditorium on Wednesday. Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zaffar Mueen Nasir, Secretary Higher Education Department Nasim Nawaz, senior faculty members and a large number of students from various institutions of higher learning were present.
Addressing the ceremony, the Punjab governor said failure in the field of education failed nations and halted journey to development. “There are hundreds of success stories of great personalities before you who were nothing before they started their struggle to achieve their goals.
So, don’t let your dreams die and fight the circumstances,” Rajwana said, adding: “We were making a nation and the government was providing people with their due rights. We did not want to take credit of our initiatives but the young generation must compare the performance of governments and judge who was serving people.” He said a few elements were spreading disappointment among the youth. He said young students were getting laptops and scholarships totally on merit and they really deserved guard of honour. Pakistan had given us a lot and we must think that what we had returned to Pakistan.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr Zaffar Mueen Nasir said the Punjab government was helping poor students through PEEF scholarships. He said the Punjab governor had supported PU administration in every problems faced by the university. Governor Rafique Rajwana presented laptops among distinguished students of various universities. Earlier, police presented guard of honour to laptop recipients in Faisal Auditorium.
Meanwhile, Punjab Schools Education Minister Rana Mashhood has said the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is investing on youth for their bright future and the distribution of laptops is the part of this strategy. “The PML-N government in Punjab in 1998 eliminated “booti mafia” and freed the education system from the influence of the aristocracy and from 2008 revolutionary measures are being taken to improve education system due to which students even from poor families are getting education in top institutions in Pakistan and abroad,” he said while addressing a laptop distribution ceremony held at the Government Viqar-un-Nisa College, according to a handout issued on Wednesday. In the fourth phase, 2,730 laptops will be distributed among talented students of Rawalpindi district.
