Govt to construct Rs20.4 bn cancer hospital in Capital

ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to construct new cancer hospital in Islamabad with the total estimated cost of Rs20.4 billion and the allocation of Rs500 million will be made during the upcoming budget 2017-18.

This new cancer hospital in Islamabad will be constructed in the existing plot of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), and it will be combined with NORI Hospital being run by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) after its construction over next a couple of years. The cancer hospital has been made part of the PSDP, but it is so far in the list of unapproved projects. 

The government also allocated Rs18.930 million in the upcoming budget for security arrangements at the Parliament House, Islamabad. So far the government had incurred expenditures up to Rs79.203 million on this project against total estimated cost of Rs98.133 million, so remaining required cost will be made part of the coming budget to complete this project in next financial year.

According to approved public sector development programme (PSDP) by the National Economic Council (NEC), available with The News, states that the government has also allocated Rs1200 million in the upcoming budget 2017-18 for up-gradation of NORI Hospital, Islamabad, against total estimated cost of Rs2,124.960 millions.

Keeping in view deteriorated health facilities, the government has decided to launch establishment of a centre for neurosciences at PIMS, Islamabad, with total estimated cost of Rs01 billion out of which Rs250 million will be allocated in the upcoming budget.

The government has also inserted Rs100 allocation for establishment of unit for shredding, sterilisation and disposal of medical waste at Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto University/PIMS, Islamabad, against total estimated cost of Rs199.762 million.

The government has allocated Rs198.130 million for up-gradation of non-radiation diagnostic services at PIMS, Rs400 million for extension of Cardiac Centre Extension Block at PIMS against total cost of Rs1,639 million and Rs100 million for construction of female doctors’ hostel against total estimated cost of Rs214 million.

 The government allocated Rs20 million for replacement/up-gradation of HAVC plant, room equipment and allied services at PIMS, Rs100 million for up-gradation of Gastroenterology Department and Rs75 million for strengthening of Intensive Care Unit at FGPC, Islamabad.

The government also allocated Rs200 million for construction of a mosque at Pak Secretariat, Islamabad, Rs300 million for construction of additional family suites for members of parliament, including 500 servant quarters at G-5/2, Islamabad.

The government has allocated Rs100 million for conduction of water from the Indus River System of Tarbela Dam for Islamabad and Rawalpindi (phase-1) against total estimated cost of Rs10 billion for this project.
