Chief Minister of Punjab Shehbaz Sharif boasts that transparency and speed can clearly be seen in the development work done by the Punjab government. The CM should take notice of the incomplete work as well. The widening of the Multan road from Niazbeg Thokar to Hudiara drain, a stretch of about 10 kilometres, was planned years ago, but no work has been undertaken so far. Commuters face hardship and delay while travelling on the road, especially when long-body vehicles take U-turns within a distance of two kilometres to enter and exit the bus stand.
People’s grouse against the Punjab government for giving more importance to development of roads in posh areas and ignoring the rest of roads in the city seems genuine. The irony is that on this stretch of road the head office of the National Highway Authority is located and right across the office is the bus stand. Negotiating the traffic chaos here every day is unnerving for motorists and bus passengers. Will the Punjab government think of completing the road-widening project on the Multan road immediately to alleviate the miseries of commuters?
