Second shift in schools ordered

LAHORE

Punjab School Education Secretary Dr Allah Bakhsh Malik has directed the CEOs of District Education Authorities (DEAs) across the province to ensure education facilities near the homes of students to achieve 100 percent enrolment target by 2018. Chairing a meeting held at Directorate of Staff Development (DSD) here on Sunday, he also directed the CEOs to ensure second shift in schools where possible so that no child was left behind. Talking to The News, Dr AB Malik said the CEOs had been directed to ensure that teachers should be accorded the highest respect. He said the scholarships being provided to the students in 16 selected districts would be completed by May 30.

 

29 arrested for kite flying

Lahore police registered 28 cases and arrested 29 persons on charges of selling, making and flying kites here in the city on Sunday. Police also recovered 854 kites and 13 rolls of kite string from their possession.

 

Man arrested with heroin

LAHORE

Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) at the Allama Iqbal International Airport arrested a man who attempted to smuggle heroin to Saudia Arabia. The arrested person was identified as Mehmboob Hussain. The accused had concealed fine heroin in cooked food.  

 

WiFi service at LCWU

Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) has signed an MoU which will extend the existing wireless facilities of the university. LCWU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Rukhsana Kausar said the the university would be developed into a 'smart university’ as the federal Higher Education Commission (HEC) would provide WiFi blanket across the campus.

 

Arab-US Summit welcomed

The Arab-Islamic-US Summit will prove a positive step to resolve challenges of the Muslim Ummah. The world leadership will have to play a crucial role in addressing issues of Kashmir, Palestine, Iraq and Syria. In a joint statement, Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, Maulana Ayub Safdar, Abdul Hameed Wattoo, Abdul Kareem Nadeem, Abdul Haq Mujahid, Abdul Hameed Sabri, Shafi Qasmi, Saad Zikriya, Nauman Hashir, Haji Muhammad Tayyab Qadri and Ashfaq Patafi said that criticism of arrival of US President Donald Trump to Saudi Arabia was irrational as the Saudi leadership had made the US leadership realise to disassociate terrorism and extremism with any particular religion and sect. —Correspondent
