Says 1.3 million cases are pending with 1,700 judges in Punjab
LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah on Saturday said how economy could improve when the traders were tired after visiting the courts for years.
He said 1.3 million cases were pending with 1,700 judges in the province, as questioned what kind of computer system he could introduce to dispose of these cases.
The pending cases were a harsh reality of the society, he said, adding that the cases would be solved through dialogue, not filing cases for the sake of litigation.
The LHC chief justice was addressing the ceremony held in connection to completion of a training course on alternate dispute resolution (ADR) at the Punjab Judicial Academy, where he distributed certificates among the participating judicial officials.
He urged the judges to decide the cases pending for years in two to three hours and remarked that the arbitration system was of the LHC, not Mansoor Ali Shah. “Syed Masoor Ali Shah is behind the scene. Actual work is being done by the team.
He said no project could work if all the stakeholders were not at the same page, adding that it was his good luck that they had a professional bar leadership. Mediation required mindset and cultural change, the chief justice noted.
He thanked media for sharing their work with people and said they would also inform the general public about the importance of ADR through social media.
He said the judicial academy was not only for judges but also lawyers.
