Two more arrested in transplant case

LAHORE

FIA Lahore Thursday arrested two more accused persons in its ongoing probe into alleged illegal kidney transplant case.

A team of FIA’s Corporate Crime Circle (CCC), Lahore arrested the accused persons, including Muhammad Athar, operation theatre assistant at Lahore General Hospital, Lahore and Naveed Hameed, operation theatre assistant at Mayo Hospital, Lahore.

According to Deputy Director FIA CCC Jamil Ahmed Khan Mayo, both the accused persons were active partners of already arrested accused persons, including Dr Fawad Mumtaz Khan and Dr Muhammad Altamash in illegal kidney transplantation.

The accused carried out hundreds illegal kidney transplantation with Dr Fawad Mumtaz Khan and Dr Altamash in Lahore, Gujrat, Kharian, Mirpur, Azad Kashmir and Islamabad, etc, Jamil said.

He said both the accused had gone into hiding since FIA’s raid at EME Society in Lahore a few weeks back.

To a question, the FIA deputy director said Muhammad Athar was arrested from district Vehari and Naveed Hameed arrested from suburb of Lahore.

So far, the Federal Investigation Agency Lahore has arrested around a dozen accused persons, including doctors, assistants, a lady health worker and their facilitators in the kidney transplant case.
