Islamabad mayor launches drive to curb food adulteration

Islamabad: A meeting chaired by the Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz was informed that especially constituted teams of Health Services Directorate of the Authority, were raiding in the entire city to ensure provision of quality edible items as per required health standards.

Sheikh Anser Aziz also directed the Directorate of Health Services to continue the operation against sub-standard and adulterated food sellers. He further directed to ensure the implementation of relevant rules and strict action against sub-standard, unhygienic and adulterated food sellers. He further directed to submit daily progress report in this regard.

He said that insistent and coherent efforts should be made to curb the menace of food adulteration from the city. Directorate of Health Services should be alive to the requirements. He said that Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has a vision for healthy Pakistan and under his guidance, the MCI is proceeding against food adulterators.
Action against food adulterators should be made more effective, fruitful and result oriented, Mayor Islamabad and Chairman, CDA, Sheikh Anser Aziz further said.

The meeting was also informed that during the fortnight, these teams have challaned 24 people and issued 19 notices to the violators of hygiene sections of the PPF Ordinance 1960.

Moreover, 60 liters substandard drinks, 15 liters substandard ketchup, 22 cracked, chipped and broken utensils were also confiscated and destroyed there and then while 19 food samples from different food outlets have also been collected and sent to laboratory for proper examination.
