ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has refused to allot bat as an election symbol to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) until the party holds intra-party elections.
In a letter dated April 26, the ECP said the matter of symbols’ allotment was placed before the ECP which held that the bat symbol might not be allotted to the PTI for the coming elections until it held intra-party elections and fulfilled other legal requirement. The ECP has circulated the latest notice to the offices of provincial election commissions.
As per its constitution, the PTI is obliged to hold intra-party elections every four years. The party last conducted intra-party elections on March 23, 2013. ECP officials said the commission had withdrawn the bat symbol for the PTI for by-elections in Chakwal.
