ISLAMABAD: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Monday told the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that two important countries have been seeking custody of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi.
An IHC division bench, comprising Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi and Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, was hearing an application of the FIA for bail cancellation of alleged mastermind of Mumbai attacks Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi.
The IHC observed that diplomatic affairs has been a domain of the federal government and it would not affect the case proceedings. It is to mention here that as per media reports the United States and the United Kingdom has written to Pakistani government seeking custody of Lakhvi.
Islamabad Capital Territory Administration Deputy Commissioner Mujahid Sherdil has extended the detention of Lakhvi for 30 more days under maintenance of public order (MPO). Lakhvi’s previous 30 days extension period was expired on January 18, Sunday, and his petition against the detention orders is also pending before the IHC.
While hearing in FIA’s bail cancellation application, the IHC bench remarked that in last hearing the accused Lakhvi was issued notices for reply but the court has not received the compliance report of the notices yet. The bench then re-issued the notices to Lakhvi and directed Superintendent Adiala Jail to submit compliance report. The court then put of the hearing.
FIA Prosecutor Ch Azhar requested the court to fix the case as early as possible. Upon which Justice Siddiqui said that if you are in a hurry then you should take this case before a military court.
