Rawalpindi: In order to make security foolproof for Pakistan Day all arrangements have been finalised and heavy traffic would not be allowed to enter Rawalpindi today (March 21) and March 23 from 12 noon to 2 p.m.
According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Yousaf Ali Shahid, a comprehensive traffic plan has been made for free movement of traffic in the city.
Enhanced number of traffic wardens have been deployed to regulate traffic in the city, he said adding, traffic from Faizabad to Rawalpindi and Islamabad would be suspended on March 23 while all traffic using Murree Road would be diverted to Double Road and through 9th Avenue enter Islamabad.
Whereas, the traffic coming from Koral Chowk would use Khanna Pull Service Road to enter Islamabad, after passing through Shamsabad via Double Road and 9th Avenue.
Inspectors, Junior Wardens and Wardens under the supervision of senior officers would perform duties to ensure smooth flow of traffic on these two routes, he added.
The CTO further informed that Motorway and National Highway police have been requested not to allow heavy traffic coming from Peshawar to enter the city and should be stopped at Attock bridge, Harow bridge, Margalla, Taxila and Chungi no. 26.
Similarly he said, heavy traffic coming from Lahore and Murree via GT Road and Murree Road would also be stopped from entering the city.
Under the traffic plan issued by the city traffic police, Faizabad would be closed and all vehicles moving towards Islamabad would be diverted to Stadium Road.
Heavy vehicles, including buses, trucks and trailers, coming from Lahore would be stopped at Gujrat, Kharian, Jhelum, Mandra Toll Plaza and Rawat near T Chowk, he said.
Public transport vehicles coming from Murree would not be allowed to move towards the capital city from Lower Topa, Double Motorway Turn, Dana Mor, Satra Mile toll plaza, he added.
