Our politicians do not want this country to function smoothly simply because this does not serve their vested interests. The word ‘compromise’ runs counter to their nature. They only make compromises in the face of some unavoidable circumstances such as the recent Peshawar tragedy. They have been engaged in this political gimmickry and expediency for the last 67 years. Every leader that came to power was full of controversies and nobody comes close to resembling statesmen like Mahathir Mohammad and Nelson Mandela.
Most politicians differ even on grave issues facing us like terrorism, militancy, etc. Since most of them have feudal backgrounds therefore they don’t want to let go their personal grudges against each other. It is time they were taught about the importance of civility in politics, otherwise we will end up going down a deep ditch.
