Artistes decide to form union
Rawalpindi
The local artistes have decided to form their union with an aim to resolve their long-standing issues and promote performing art and culture in this region where number of artistes had earned fame in the past due to their unmatched talent and acting skills.
Munawar Afridi said there is no proper academy for young and emerging artistes and the arts council that is supposed to work for the artistes has also failed to live up to their expectations. "We have now no expectations from the arts council that is why the formation of an artistes union at the division level is on the cards. Some 350 members have already approached us and showed their willingness to get membership of this union," he said. Ali Shan said local artistes are not given chance in theatre and television dramas and contrary to this those who come from other cities enjoy opportunities in the twin cities.
