Healthcare needs care

If a leader of a country cannot choose the country’s hospitals for his/her treatment, it is time to overhaul and upgrade the present healthcare sector. It is no secret that Pakistani political elite and the influential class go abroad for all sort of medical treatment.

It is unfortunate that leaders who are so cautious about their health pay no attention to the sad state of the country’s healthcare. Patients are dying because of this negligence. Great leaders utilise healthcare facilities available in the country. If they think these facilities are not up to the mark, they struggle for their improvement.

Patients in public hospitals are facing a large number of problems. Overworked staff often neglects patients. Public hospitals also lack basic facilities. A large number of life-saving medicines are not available at these hospitals. Hospitals’ administrations claim that they do not get funds from the government. Poor hygienic conditions are another major problem in such hospitals with wards being in the same condition as toilets.

It is the responsibility of the country to improve its healthcare system. Rampant corruption has affected smooth operations in all sectors across the country. It is often assumed that funds allocated to hospitals are not utilised at the fullest. The government must take measures to ensure that public hospitals not only provide cost effective treatment, but also provide better care and facilities to ailing patients.
